Beyond that, several of the investigators have tales, or brief appearances, as the book seeks to offer a rounded picture of what is happening overall.
There are also fascinating backstories for 3 of the named cultists who players had to hunt down: Wolf-Man Drew, Ruth Turner, and Peter Warren. There are short stories here for staple ally Leo de Luca and for pivotal figure Lita Chantler. This new short story collection, also called The Devourer Below, fills in a lot of the gaps in what was an early foray by FFG into a game that relied so heavily on the story, and offers some fascinating insights into the never-ending hunger that plagues Arkham. Since then, Umôrdhoth has found its way into Arkham Horror 3 rd Edition, and Arkham Horror Final Hour, but it remained something of a mystery, the background lore never filled in in the way that Ancient Ones taken directly from the works of Lovecraft et al. The third scenario is called “The Devourer Below” and the eponymous monstrosity is Umôrdhoth, freshly created for the game by MJ Newman and associates at FFG. Arkham Horror the Card Game first released in 2016, with a 3-scenario mini campaign in which investigators find their homes overrun with Ghouls, team up with mysterious monster-huntress Lita Chantler, track down a set of cultists who are plaguing Arkham, then head to the woods in an attempt to stop whichever cultists got away in scenario two from summoning a mysterious ancient one. Where some of Aconyte’s releases bear only the most tangential relationship to the games that (notionally) inspire them, their latest Arkham Horror release, The Devourer Below, could hardly draw more heavily from the source material.
